During your orthodontic treatment, there are some limitations to the kinds of foods you are allowed to eat. There are some common food items that you may already know about and some you will learn can be harmful to your treatment. Below is a general list of what to avoid and what is best for that Hollywood-ready smile!
Candy, cookies, cakes, ice cream, pie, etc. Anything high in sugar can lead to tooth decay.
Caramel, taffy, starburst, gum, etc. Anything sticky can cause damage to your appliances.
Soda, juice, energy drinks, sweet tea, etc. These can contribute to cavities and decay.
Citrus fruit, pickles, soda, etc. These foods can eat away the enamel protection on your teeth.
If you happen to indulge in any of the foods or drinks listed above, be sure to rinse your aligner trays thoroughly after consumption. Any left over acid residue can contribute to tooth decay and damage to your enamel.
Bread, brown rice, nuts, oatmeal, etc. Grains aid to the cleansing and nutrition of your teeth and gums.
Fruits and Vegetables
Soft fruits and vegetables are great for your teeth. Avoid hard vegetables such as carrots unless they are steamed!
Milk, cheese, yogurt, etc. Calcium loaded foods help strengthen your teeth and bones.
